25 Random Things About Me

I’ve been reading these posts with great interest the last few days.  I love finding out a bit more about the people I follow on Twitter and whose blogs I enjoy reading.  Thanks to Kate at Bibliophile Book Club who I believe started it.  As I’ve been tagged by Louise of Louise Reviews, here’s my contribution.

1. What is your middle name?

The clue is in my Twitter name – Denise (but spelt with one N and not two). When I set up my Twitter account there was already a Karendenise registered so I had to slightly alter my name – hence ‘karendennise’.

2. What is your favourite drink?

Apart from gin…and wine?  Tea and Coffee equally – I normally drink coffee at work as we have one of those machines that produce various Cappuccinos and Lattes etc.   At home I drink Rooibis tea (but with milk) and our Tassimo machine gets a lot of use.  I love the Costa Cappuccino.

3. What is your favourite song at the moment?

I love music and use my iPod every day but am so out of touch with current chart hits.  I don’t have a current favourite but Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ is an all-time favourite, as is Aerosmith’s ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’.

4. What is your favourite food?

I like steak and roast beef but otherwise I’m not a huge fan of red meat.  I eat a lot of chicken.  Whilst I enjoy nice food, I’m a cheap date and am quite happy with chicken and chips for dinner!

5. What is the last thing you bought?

We had a Christmas Holly Fayre at work yesterday and I bought two glass Christmassy tealight holders from one of the charity stalls. Otherwise it would most likely be a book!

6. Favourite book of all time?

Probably Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

7. Favourite Colour?

Yellow. It’s such a bright and cheerful colour.  So I don’t know why I normally wear something in black for work!

8. Do you have any pets?

No, I used to have a dog but long working hours now make having one impossible. Hopefully I will have another when I retire.

9. Favorite Perfume?

I’ve worn Chanel ‘Allure’ for many years.

10. Favourite Holiday?

Oh this is difficult.  I’ve never done long haul holidays but have had some lovely holidays in Europe including Switzerland and France.  I adore Italy and have spent many fantastic holidays there, the Amalfi Coast being a particular favourite.  For the last 10 years my partner and I have been hooked on cruises and we have done several Mediterranean cruises. We’ve also done a couple of Christmas Cruises with stops in Sweden, Germany and Norway, (the North Sea in winter is not always nice!) the Norwegian Fjords and the Baltics as well as several short cruises to Amsterdam, France, Bruges and Guernsey.  A highlight of the Baltic cruise was spending two days in St Petersburg and also being able to visit the Hermitage in the evening when it was closed to the public.

11. Are you married?

No although my partner and I have been together for about 14 years.

12. Have you ever been out of the country, if so how many times?

Yes, too many to count.

13. Do you speak any other language?

No.  Although I wish I could.  I know the odd word in French and Italian – and it is only the odd word!  I feel quite ashamed when abroad and people speak English fluently as their second language.

14. How many siblings do you have?

None, I’m an only child.

15. What is your favourite store?

John Lewis with M&S a close second.

16. Favourite restaurant?

I don’t have a favourite restaurant on land but whilst on the ships, we’ve had some fantastic meals in the Gary Rhodes and Marco Pierre White restaurants and we always book for the fine dining options when on board.

17. When was the last time you cried?

I can’t remember specifically but I cry quite easily, usually at TV programmes like DIY SOS or Long Lost Family.

18. Favourite Blog?

I follow many blogs, usually book blogs, (with the odd cruise blog too) and to name a favourite would be unfair.

19. Favourite Movie?

I’m not really a big film fan, probably an all-time favourite is Sleepless in Seattle.

20. Favourite TV show?

All my favourite TV shows have ended. Years ago I loved Only Fools and Horses and have collected every series on DVD – they still make me laugh.  Other favourites were Lewis and New Tricks, both of which have recently finished.  Midsomer Murders was a favourite but the Barnaby I preferred was John Nettles.   I’m not a fan of reality TV shows but I do enjoy programmes like Location, Location (probably pure nosiness looking at other people’s houses!) and also crime series/dramas.

21. PC or Mac?

PC plus iPad

22. What phone do you have?

An iPhone 5S and a BlackBerry

23. What’s your favourite pastime?

That’s an easy one.  Reading (and wasting time on the internet!),  I also used to do a lot of cross stitch, although this has taken a back seat lately.

24. Can you cook?

I can do the basics but despite having a huge collection of cookery books I’m not that great at cooking.  My partner is still waiting for me to bake him a cake. He’s been waiting a long time!

25. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

I have two piercings in each ear lobe which I’ve had since my teenage years.  I’ve never wanted a tattoo.
