#Sealskin by Su Bristow : New signed paperback copy to be won

Published by Orenda Books

ebook and paperback: 15 February 2017

I’m sure that many book loving people can’t have failed to see this book all over social media recently. Fellow book bloggers were taking part in a very successful blog tour and there were so many enthusiastic and positive reviews.  My review for Sealskin is here (together with a guest post from Su) – did I like it?  No, I didn’t.  I LOVED it, so much so that it will be on my top book of the year list when I post this at the end of 2017.

I was fortunate to be invited to the official launch last week hosted by Goldsboro Books at their bookshop in Cecil Court, London. There was wine and cake, blogger and author friends to catch up with and of course books!  One of the evening’s highlights was Su Bristow reading a section from Sealskin. She read beautifully and it made me want to read the book all over again.  There are a few pics below (very disappointingly I later discovered that my phone had decided not to retain the photo I took of Orenda publisher, Karen Sullivan, Su and Cathie Hartigan (Sealskin won the very first Exeter Novel Prize in 2013 which Cathie was involved with)) but I hope the stunning display in the Goldsboro window makes up for it!

Whilst at the launch, I bought a copy of Sealskin to give away which Su kindly signed.  If you’d like to win a copy of this fabulous book, please use the Rafflecopter entry box below. I’m sorry but for postage costs, I can only send to entrants from the UK and Europe.

To remind you of the story of Sealskin – this is the description:

What happens when magic collides with reality?  Donald is a young fisherman, eking out a lonely living on the west coast of Scotland. One night he witnesses something miraculous …and makes a terrible mistake. His action changes lives – not only his own, but those of his family and the entire tightly knit community in which they live. Can he ever atone for the wrong he has done, and can love grow when its foundation is violence?Based on the legend of the selkies – seals who can transform into people – Sealskin is a magical story, evoking the harsh beauty of the landscape, the resilience of its people, both human and animal, and the triumph of hope over fear and prejudice. With exquisite grace, Exeter Novel Prize-winner Su Bristow transports us to a different world, subtly and beautifully exploring what it means to be an outsider, and our innate capacity for forgiveness and acceptance. Rich with myth and magic, Sealskin is, nonetheless, a very human story, as relevant to our world as to the timeless place in which it is set. And it is, quite simply, unforgettable.
