THIS ROMANTIC COMEDY HEROINE IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT! She has a chronic illness, which makes her doubly awesome and kick ass.

Kat is 34, single and is running out of time – she wants to get married before she turns 35, but her fiancé just ditched her for a 21-year-old life coach.

Freddy is a ruthless marketing guru who thinks love is just transactional. He’ll use his marketing genius to make Kat the most sought-after woman in London, if she lets him buy out her struggling company.

With her 35th birthday looming and her love life a disaster, Kat agrees to become Project Marriage. Can a rebrand king sell happily ever after? Or is love something even the best marketer can’t package and promote?

A smart, funny romantic comedy for Emily Henry, Lucy Score and Ali Hazelwood fans.

Why I Gave My Romcom Heroine a Chronic Illness

by Suzy Quinn

Can someone with a chronic illness be the star of a romantic comedy? I think they should be. That’s why I wrote Love or Your Money Back with a heroine who has relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis. Because let’s face it—people living with chronic illness are resilient, brave, and full of grit. Sounds like main character material to me.

Kat Friedman is smart, successful, and fiercely independent. But sometimes, MS throws her curveballs. And that uncertainty—never quite knowing when her body will let her down—leaves her feeling like she’s racing against time. She wants love. She wants kids. And now, after being dumped by her fiancé (for a 21-year-old life coach), she’s not sure she’ll ever get there.

Enter Freddy Stark, a ruthless marketing expert with a proposal: let him turn her love life into a campaign. He’ll brand her, pitch her, and “sell” her to the man of her dreams. In return, she gives him partial control of her company. Wild? Absolutely. But where’s the fun in being normal?

Writing this book led me down a path of real-life stories—people living with MS who show immense courage, often without recognition. Chronic illness isn’t talked about much in light-hearted spaces. It’s hidden, quiet, sometimes lonely. But it’s also real, and it’s time we saw those realities in stories with laughter, love, and hope.

Yes, Love or Your Money Back is a romantic comedy. So don’t worry—Kat gets her happy ending. It may not be the one she planned, but it’s full of heart and hard-won joy.

I wrote this book to celebrate the invisible warriors. And to remind us that sometimes, the strongest love stories come from the toughest battles.
